Making Racial Equity a Reality
Racism is something that should not exist in our modern world, but it does. Racial disparities exist in different areas including, schools, youth development, workplaces, and homelessness. Skin color has been used to determine individuals’ access to social facilities like healthcare. Racial equity is a corrective justice for groups and individuals who have experienced oppression due to servitude, denial of equal opportunities. Racial equity is a progressive activity, not a destination we can reach. Working together to transform relationships among individuals impacted by poverty can help to make racial equity a reality. It is possible to make racial equity a reality by supporting organizations go beyond helping towards shared decision-making and genuine personal relationships that strengthen policy and practice.
In education, we can make racial equity a reality by creating opportunities for collaborative learning. Collaborative learning is effective in bringing about racial equity in education because different people have different ideas that they can teach and learn from others. Students have an equal opportunity to express their opinions on various issues in a collaborative learning environment.
